01

Start with the visitor's job

Write down who the site serves and what that person must do: understand a SaaS product, compare properties, browse a portfolio or request a service. List the pages and evidence needed for that journey before choosing a visual style. A polished homepage cannot make up for a missing product page, service detail or clear next step. Look for a template whose navigation and page sequence already support the job you need to deliver.

02

Test the live demo beyond its cover image

Open the demo on a phone and desktop. Follow its primary action, test navigation with a keyboard, inspect the longest page and try its forms or filters. Ask what happens when a list is empty or an input is invalid. A working demonstration is useful evidence, but it is not proof that a payment provider, email service or database is connected. The product page should explain which behaviors are bundled examples and which require integration.

03

Read the implementation boundary

Check the framework version, included routes, reusable components and setup instructions. Then identify every service your production site needs: authentication, payments, booking, content management, search, email, analytics or customer data. Put these in a separate integration list with an owner and budget. This prevents a frontend template from being mistaken for a complete hosted business system.

04

Price the work after purchase

Estimate the time to replace demo copy and imagery, adapt the design system, connect real services, review accessibility, and test the final site on small screens. Compare that work across candidates, not just their license prices. A well documented structure can save more time than a cheaper design that forces every section to be rebuilt. Read the exact license and support boundary before using a template for a client.

05

Make a shortlist you can defend

Choose two or three candidates and score each against the same criteria: audience fit, necessary pages, demonstrated behavior, integration effort, documentation and design adaptability. Keep screenshots or notes from the live demos. If a claim cannot be verified in the demo or product description, ask the seller before buying. The best choice is the foundation that removes the most real work for your specific launch.
